Interfaith Weddings: All Faiths Welcome
For the past 12 years I’ve been the Spiritual Director for an interfaith community (Interfaith Families Project of the Greater DC area-IFFP) with Jewish and Christian couples raising their children in both traditions. Our community meets couples’ needs from the their engagement process through their many rites of passage. Interfaith marriages are my speciality. I’ve counseled dozens of interfaith couples to plan their special day. For your ceremony I can draw on their struggles and successes.
If you only want a rabbi to officiate at your wedding, I highly recommend Rabbi Jane S. Berman, a Reconstructionist rabbi who does a lot of interfaith weddings. She can be reached at janeberman@yahoo.com.
Testimonials
“Rev. Jarvis was the perfect wedding officiant! Given that my husband and I wanted to blend our different religious traditions in the ceremony, Rev. Jarvis had the sensitivity, openness and knowledge to help shape the service of our dreams.”

“My husband and I met with several Rabbis and Ministers about officiating our interfaith wedding. They were all lovely, but had very specific ideas and guidelines about how the ceremony should be conducted. It was stressful, we thought we would never be able to create the meaningful wedding that *we* wanted. When we spoke with Julia, it was like a weight lifted from us and we felt joy again about planning our wedding ceremony. She and the Rabbi she connected us to helped us write the ceremony that was meaningful for us, that fit who we were and was exactly what we wanted as the way to start our marriage. They encouraged us to write the words that would be special for us. Julia gave us ideas for the ceremony and support throughout the process. At the wedding itself, Julia was warm and spiritual, in a way that we and both of our families could enjoy. She and the Rabbi worked together like a symphony, playing their different roles but harmonizing seamlessly together. It could not have been a more beautiful or more meaningful day. Julia helped make it perfect. We stay in touch with Julia ten years later, she has conducted the Baby Welcoming ceremony for our two kids and remains an important part of our lives.”

“From the first time we met Rev. Julia Jarvis a few months before our wedding, we felt like we were being married by an old friend. She made the entire process of putting together a ceremony so easy and comfortable. Even our parents, who were slightly skeptical of an interfaith ceremony, couldn’t stop raving about how personal and wonderful our ceremony was. It was a part of our wedding that we got the most compliments on. Thank you Julia for helping to make our wedding day so personal and so special.”
