Baby Welcoming
At a welcoming ceremony I usually begin with these words:
All cultures across the globe have some kind of welcoming ceremony for new babies: the Hopis present their newborns to the sun and the corn fields, and Moroccan women and children sing the announcement of a new baby. We gather here today to welcome this baby to this world, celebrate him/her roots, and introduce them to our family/community. We are here to affirm our commitment to love, support and help them grow to achieve all their potential – physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually, and to introduce them to the world and all the wonder that it holds. Each newborn baby represents the unlimited potential of life- that is why they are each so special. This ceremony serves to mark the beginning of this baby’s connection to their world and spiritual life force and helps renew in all of us that same connection that we have to the fundamental spiritual and physical elements of life.
Yes, you want to celebrate the birth of your child! In whatever way you want to welcome and name your child, I will work with you to tailor the kind of ceremony you want to ritualize the beginning of your child’s life.
Testimonials
“We thoroughly enjoyed having Julia perform our baby welcoming ceremonies for both of our boys. By having her come to our home, the ceremony felt warm and intimate. She also guided us through designing our ceremony, but also allowed us to personalize it the way we were most comfortable with it. Julia’s caring and loving nature made us feel like she was a part of our family included in the ceremonies for our boys.”

“Rev. Julia Jarvis officiated at each of our three children’s Christian baptisms/ Jewish baby namings. She did a beautiful job providing ceremonies that spoke to us and helping members of both sides of the family feel comfortable and held. She loves children and interacted masterfully with all three of our babies (all under a year old at their baptisms). She went above and beyond our expectations: from leading songs to performing a touching baby blessing at the end. Rev. Jarvis is sensitive and caring and creates truly personalized ceremonies that speak to your heart as well as your audience.”
